Value for money

Had a lovely time at Nyati Safari Lodge! I booked it based on reviews and a nightly rate discount, and I was so happy that I did. Brendan was an incredible guide. We had incredible sightings with him on drive, as well as along the river from our room deck.

20 hours in a vehicle dedicated to finding wildlife within a self-proclaimed Big 5 nature reserve yielded the following results: no lions, no leopards, only 1 rhinoceros, only 1 buffalo, some elephants, giraffes, kudus, and impalas. It's quite disappointing for someone who crossed the ocean for a safari. There's no animal density here. There's a lot of heterogeneity among the rangers; some drive at 30 mph without any ability to find the animals. Only one of them really made an effort. Honestly, I don't recommend this lodge for safaris. Food was okay, drinks were okay, and the staff were dedicated. But it didn't work for what I needed. We will certainly return to Africa in other countries to actually see the animals.

I went to Nyati with my husband and my 6-year-old daughter. We had an amazing stay! The whole staff was very kind and helpful! Our room was spacious and extremely comfortable with a great shower! We could see beautiful animals right from our balcony! We saw a family of elephants very close to us! We saw zebras from the gym area! We also saw a crocodile, hippos and more elephants across the river that is in front of the lodge (it was amazing!). The food was perfect! Chef Phillip made us delicious vegetarians meals (we requested in advance and we always had amazing dishes)! The game drives were so great! All the rangers were very kind! We were able to spot many incredible animals! I highly recommend Nyati Safari Lodge!

What an incredible experience! The game drivers we had were exceptional and very knowledgeable, particularly Brodie and Branden. They both went to a lot of effort to ensure we saw a range of animals and made our drives even more interesting by giving information on what we saw. These two really helped to make our safari an unforgettable experience. We were taken to/from the airport by France who was very accommodating and took us to a shop for getting money out and stopping for animals along the way. The accommodation is beautiful and very clean. We came for our honeymoon and arrived to a bottle of champagne and a complimentary massage which helped make our stay very special and feel personal. The masseuse we got was fantastic and is a real asset to the team. The lodge organised evening drinks in the bush on our first night and dinner in the bush which were truly wonderful experiences. The food was always first class and we enjoyed the presentation of each course from the talented chefs. Our only drawback was the service from the waiting staff, who looked at us with disdain and their cold attitude made us feel like an inconvenience. This leaves a lot to be desired and really stuck out in comparison to the high quality experience we’d otherwise had.

Had a wonderful stay! The property itself is beautiful and staff made us feel very welcome. Ashante deserves a special mention - she was so kind, patient and helped me with all my bookings. She really made things easier for me. The guide was friendly and professional too. My only issue was in the chalet room where I was sleeping: there was no signal at all, and Wi-Fi only worked in the dining area. Even my own mobile data didn’t work in the chalet. If they can improve connectivity in the rooms it would make the stay perfect. Besides that everything was nice and I’d recommend it.

    FAQs Frequently Asked Questions
    Do I need a visa?

Whether a visa is required for travel to South Africa depends on your citizenship. Many countries are visa-exempt, allowing entry for up to 90 days for tourism or business. If your country is not visa-exempt, you must apply for a visa before traveling, as visas are not issued at South African ports of entry.

    Do I need any vaccinations?

For travel to South Africa, required vaccinations include proof of yellow fever vaccination if coming from a risk country. Recommended vaccinations encompass routine shots (diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis, measles-mumps-rubella, polio), Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, typhoid, and influenza. Additional precautions for rabies, meningitis, and malaria may be necessary based on your itinerary and activities. It is also important to ensure your COVID-19 vaccination is current.

    Do I need travel insurance?

Before booking your next trip, it’s essential to check with your insurance provider regarding your coverage. We advise having both cancellation and travel insurance for added protection during your travels.

Should I bring cash, and where should I keep it?

Safety deposit boxes are available in all River Bungalows, Luxury Rhino Tents, Olifant Villa Suites and Private Cheetah Camp at Nyati Safari Lodge. It is advisable to bring some South African Rand (ZAR) for purchasing souvenirs during tours and tipping the staff at the end of your stay. Master and Visa Cards are accepted for all other purchases at Nyati Safari Lodge.

Do I need to book the optional activities before departure?

At Nyati Safari Lodge, you can easily book and pay for all activities using a master or visa card. Please be aware that certain tours have minimum and maximum participant requirements, and all tours are subject to a 48-hour cancellation policy.
